Empire Group Holdings Limited (“Empire Group”) is pleased to announce the official opening of the “Private Collections of Dr. Walter Kwok” (“Private Collection Gallery”) at its S22 headquarter in Wong Chuk Hang this March. The inaugural exhibition features a selection of treasured artifacts from the Qing Dynasty, specifically from the Yongzheng and Qianlong periods, personally curated by the late founder, Dr. Walter Kwok. The gallery invites the public to explore the exquisite craftsmanship of Chinese heritage and gain deeper insight into the richness of Chinese cultural artistry. Exhibits will be rotated periodically to offer visitors a fresh experience with each visit.
Dr. Walter Kwok was a visionary entrepreneur, philanthropist, and internationally renowned collector of Chinese art. His passion for Chinese culture and art is reflected in his extensive and diverse collection, which includes not only historically significant porcelain and antiques but also pieces he personally found intriguing. His discerning eye for beauty is evident in the exceptional quality of his collection.
The collection spans a wide range of categories, including porcelain, jade, cloisonné, lacquerware, glassware, snuff bottles, and timepieces. Dr. Kwok had a particular fondness for Ming and Qing Dynasty artworks, especially painted enamel on copper from the Qing era. These masterpieces not only showcase the sophistication of ancient Chinese craftsmanship but also reflect Dr. Kwok’s deep cultural appreciation and refined aesthetic sensibility.
Dr. Kwok believed that antiques embody the dedication of master artisans and bring joy to those who appreciate them. His lifelong devotion to collecting and promoting Chinese art made him a true connoisseur. As a former member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, he was committed to promoting Chinese culture. His efforts have helped elevate global appreciation for Chinese heritage and craftsmanship, establishing one of the most respected private collections in Hong Kong and beyond.
The gallery’s location at 1/F, S22, Empire Group’s first wholly-owned Grade A commercial development, holds special significance. It not only commemorates Dr. Kwok’s legacy but also continues his mission of cultural promotion by opening his private collection to the public. Through this initiative, visitors can gain a deeper understanding of Chinese history, art, and the life of our late Founder Dr. Kwok.
The Private Collections of Dr. Walter Kwok is now open to the public and group visit from March 2025. Details of visit arrangement are as follows:
